Read MoreRianna, 19, believes in the power of sport to bring communities together and change them for the better. For the past year she has coached netball sessions as a volunteer and she has recently been appointed as an official London Ambassador for the Olympics. She is also studying a Sport BTEC and hopes to study Sport Management at Bedfordshire university.
She decided to set up a running crew for young people aged between 11 and 25 who do weekly running sessions around Brixton, working together as a team to build up their fitness. Rianna thinks it is helping to tackle something that she’s noticed in young people around her area – a mind-set where they don’t believe in themselves, and are not keeping active or healthy because of this. She also believes that this attitude contributes to wider health problems like obesity, and she wants to do something about it.
As well as that she sees it as an opportunity to gain more experience in sports leadership and running a project from scratch. Using her experience in health and fitness she hopes to offer advice to members of the running crew and to keep them interested in the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
