We love to share at Live UnLtd. So just in case you missed anything we were sharing this week, we’ve put together a handy Round-Up post so you can catch up.

Technology: The sky’s the limit

We’re all excited to be supporting the Forward Foundation in a competition to find the best new ideas for using technology to help people find work – Tech2Job.

We’ve always backed ground-breaking technology and media-based projects – whether it be running a web TV channel, doing web and graphic design, music production or inventing a phone app.

What these projects have in common in addition to using technology, is that they help others and allow each Award Winner an opportunity to try something new and learn new skills. Who knows where it could lead…

Lashai’s App

Take Lashai Ben Salmi, for example who sees apps as a way to make a change for those who are being bullied. The 11-year-old from London has experienced bullying first-hand, and even moved schools because it was getting so severe.

Lashai saw an opportunity to use phone app technology to create “RED CARD IT!” to offer those being bullied some advice, information, and a place where they feel less isolated by their situation. READ MORE

Jordan Muzio, 21, started The Channel as a way to give, “young people a voice”. It’s an opportunity to talk about topics like education and work, as well as things like entertainment and music.

“I wanted young people to talk to other young people through a medium that was going to reach them. I thought, ‘What if I could do this? How many other people would I help besides myself in the process?’”

Jordan’s project is also an opportunity for other to get experience in acting, presenting, sound and lighting, filming and editing. “Everyone can contribute,” she says. READ MORE

Finding Jobs With Technology

Technology is a huge part of all of our lives. Big surprise, yeah?! We already know this. People are finding more and more ways of using this access to technology to their advantage. Take a look at this trailer for an upcoming documentary, The Startup Kids, about the young people starting businesses in Silicon Valley.

So this is a very direct way of people finding jobs with technology – actually doing a job in technology! But that’s not all that Tech2Job is about – we want you to help people find jobs, all different kinds of jobs, through the smart use of technology. Here are some ideas to get you thinking.

Your Social CV

We hear about this all the time – don’t leave trails of embarrassing photos of yourself dotted around Facebook or Twitter or Tumblr or wherever a future employer might stumble across it. Making these photos only visible to certain people or difficult to track down is something we need to think about. 37% of employers look up potential employees social media profiles. We’re interconnected with people, and we find jobs in many different ways now, so we have to make sure we don’t let something as simple as that be the reason you don’t get called in for an interview. You can read a post about whether we share too much online here >>.

But how can we turn this into a positive? If employers want to use the Internet in the search for new people to work for them, how can we help them do that? Entelo is a service trying to change the recruitment industry, helping employers find candidates through their social streams. You can take a look at a Forbes article about it here. And the Social CV is doing a similar thing.

These ideas are about seeing something that’s already happening, and trying make it happen in a simpler and better way with technology.

Nightlife Club

Megan Bothwell

Megan Bothwell, 19, grew up in a community house that ran projects to help people by providing shelter, running courses, and offering advice. Growing up in this environment has stuck with her.

“It had a huge impact on me. I appreciate even having a bed for the night,” she says, “I wanted to give something back. I have great memories of people leaving there with a smile on their face.”

So Megan decided that she would run a project of her own during the Easter Week, known as Nightlife Club.

“There are a lot of people who are disadvantaged in the area. There are also a lot of young people who are just bored, and this combined with peer pressure can lead to anti-social behaviour.”
