Bruce Walker – We Are The Future

Read MoreThis week we’ve turned our attention to recycling and brought you some clever, innovative, and a few downright nutty recycling ideas to inspire you.
This round-up is a form of recycling too, of course, giving you a chance to catch what you might have missed. (Clever, eh?)
We’ve covered all aspects of the subject, the best of which we’ve included below. We’ve attempted to show that everyone can do their bit and make a difference, like the school pupil who campaigned to get recycle bins installed at her school.
You can also help to change people’s view of things, like the chap who designed a logo and artwork to help remove the stigma attached to (and offence caused by) ‘regifting’, or giving away your Christmas and birthday presents as it’s usually known!
Below are some other great ideas we’ve come across….

We caught up with The Recycling Group, whose Live UnLtd-backed founder Gabriel, 17, started his project with the website recyclinggroup.org, which enables people to sign up to the service and advertise items they had no longer have a use for.
If anyone wants these items, they can have them for free and they just go and collect them. It started off locally, with the hope of expanding further to other parts of the UK. “It’s been successful so far,” he says, “120 people joined in the past month. We’ve recycled over 1700 items, including a greenhouse, an inflatable swimming pool, and a grand piano!”
Read Gabriel’s story here.
This vending machine gives you a chance to donate things you don’t want any more, and you can pick up something new at the same time!

Recycling isn’t always about turning old plastic into new plastic bottles, or scrap paper into notebooks. Sometimes it’s about creating something totally different – and far more fun and engaging…
Cardiff artist Dominic Gubb creates incredibly life-like animal sculptures, mainly dogs like those above, from plastic milk bottle tops, bags, old chicken wire, and discarded furniture. You can view many of his wonderful pieces on his blog, here.
Korean artist Seo Young Deok (pictured below) repurposes metal objects, such as chains, to create beautiful pieces of art. You can see more here.
Rather than thinking up secondary, alternative uses for things that are no longer wanted, what if things were designed to become something else after their main use has ended? This is thinking behind the Sprout pencil, which more than just symbolises the return of the pencil back into a tree, by containing a seed. Just add water to grow more pencils!
Sprout received all of the funding it needed through its Kickstarter campaign. You can find out more here.
Maybe you can think of a way to Create Your Career with recycling. We’re excited to be working with InpirEngage International and Xing Education to give you the chance to start your own social venture.
Could you make a change in your area when it comes to recycling? Find out more about doing it with Create Your Career!
We were at Youth Enterprise Live this month talking to people about how we back people who want to change their world.
We had a great time meeting people at the event. Take a look at some of the Live UnLtd team in action in the video below. And head here to see some photos we took there.
Can you think of a smart way to recycle, repurpose, or upcycle things? We could back your project to help you make it happen. Find out more by clicking below.
