At Live UnLtd we love to share things about people who are changing their world. You can change your world by taking on issues in your local community, or by taking on some of the world’s larger issues like famine.
Here’s our Round-Up of some of the things we’ve been sharing this week on this subject.
You can keep up to date with everything we’re sharing on Twitter and Facebook.
Take a look at this TED Talk from Josette Sheeran. She says, “Food is one issue that cannot be solved person by person. We have to stand together.”
This infographic shows how some nations are trying to help this issue. It shows the countries that aren’t giving as much aid as they promise, and the countries that are giving more. Here in the UK we’re doing a great job by giving well above the amount we promise!
Foodbanks are a way that people who are struggling to make ends meet can be provided with basic food requirements. With the economic situation as it is, people have required foodbanks more lately. Foodbanks work on people donating food which is then kept and distributed amongst those who need it.
Foodbanks in the UK were being mapped by The Guardian
A lot of food is thrown away by supermarkets – things like “wonky carrots” are not put out on the shelves because they believe that consumers don’t want them.
What do you think? Do you only buy food that looks perfect? Or do you accept that sometimes food grown out of the ground won’t look perfect?

FlashFood may sound like something you might eat at a posh restaurant, but this ‘food recovery’ app allows restaurants and caterers to easily inform charities nearby that they have leftover food that would otherwise be thrown in the bin.
Its creators are a team of young people who were inspired by the fact that one in five children in America goes to bed hungry every night.
People in influential positions often use this influence to do great things. The legendary Mo Farah, who won two gold medals during this year’s Olympic Games in London, set up the Mo Farah Foundation. The foundation ran a recent fundraising event called “A Night Of Champions” to try and tackle famine in the Horn of Africa.
Sir Steve Redgrave was in attendance at the event, you can see Steve all dressed up for the event here!
We’re working with Sir Steve to say it’s Your Call Your Community, what could you change in your area? Head to LiveUnLtd.com/YCYC to tell us a little about your idea.
Often solving these problems are about education. In this short video you can see what a difference it makes when knowledge about how to grow a particular kind of potato is passed from one person to another.

Foodcycle
A project backed by Live UnLtd is Food Cycle. It’s a venture which combines young volunteers, surplus food and free kitchen space to create nutritious meals for people affected by food poverty. Find out more here.
Has this inspired you to think about how you could contribute to tackling big issues like these? Taking on a challenge within a smaller part of a larger issue is more helpful than doing nothing at all. Do you have an idea like Foodcycle? Let us know about it! We could back you with a cash Award and the support you need to get your idea off the ground.
