The Weekly Round-Up – The Olympics, Youth Debate and Your Call Your Community

Your Call Your Community

We’re always sharing things at Live UnLtd. And even though you’re probably keeping up with all of our activity on Facebook and Twitter already, here’s a handy round-up just in case you missed anything this week!

Your Call Your Community

Your Call Your Community is your chance to be the change you want to see in your area. We’ve teamed up with the Steve Redgrave Fund to give you the opportunity to change your community for the better.

This could be reopening a disused space to do something creative, promoting health and fitness through the power of sport, or running an event which brings different people in your area together.

All ideas must be submitted by 9am on Monday 1st October 2012.

The Greatest British Olympians And Paralympians

The country has been swept up by the Olympics this week. After an opening ceremony that grabbed the attention of the world, the events are well underway.

We’ve put together a quick list of some of the most successful and inspiring people from the British Olympic and Paralympic teams of the past. Some you’ll have heard of, but some you might not. Find out about them here.

Are you healthy?

All of these Olympic athletes are making us look bad. Gymnasts are flipping around on mats and making it look easy. Cyclists are going for miles and barely breaking a sweat. Maybe we’re speaking for ourselves here, though. Maybe you’re keeping yourself as healthy as that lot. In that case – well done! For the rest of us, there may still be some room for improvement.

We collected some health tips to get you thinking about eating healthy and getting active. Check them out here.

The Run Dem Crew Youngers say all you need is a pair of trainers. They give people aged 14-21 the tools to change their lives through sport and creativity. They hit the streets, work together, and support each other to push on through the miles.

“We cannot expect young people to ever be their best if we only expect their worst.” – Luke Rodgers

Luke Rodgers

Award Winner Luke Rodgers attended an Enterprise Lab debate last week at the Houses of Parliament on the issue of youth unemployment and social enterprise. Perceptions and the right attitude are all important, he says.

Laya Loves

We told you a little about one of the projects we’ve backed.

Laya was struggling with low self-esteem when she saw an advert for workshops to help people build confidence. She had always loved making her own beauty products and she saw a way that she could bring together these two areas into a project to help herself and others.

Find out all of the things you can do with an apple!

And finally.

We love this video from Ted.  A teacher tells us how he started with a wall of salad in a classroom of pupils in disadvantaged situations and grew this into a farming project to get these pupils some great farming and business skills!

Did all of that get you thinking about how you could change your world?

We back projects by people who want to do just that. Get started below by telling us a little about your idea.
