Keep On Running: Tips To Motivate You

Posted by In News, Sports & Recreation.

The Olympics and Paralympics have got people thinking about getting out and getting active. Now’s the time to start running!

Running is free – you don’t need any specific equipment or expensive trainers to do it. In fact, there is no evidence to suggest fancy trainers make you faster, or better, or that they prevent injury. However, technique is all important – follow these simple steps to attain injury-free running.

Okay, so not having the latest kit isn’t an excuse. But even so, we know how hard it can be to go running when you’re tired, it’s raining and/or cold outside, or there’s something good to watch on TV. The Run Dem Crew Youngers are here to inspire you.

Previously we brought you inspiration in the form of great stories about runners doing astonishing things. This week we’re looking a bit closer to home for advice…

We spoke to a couple of our Run Dem Crew Youngers crew leaders and asked Rianna and Nathaniel for their top tips to get you up and running – and to keep you going.

Rianna’s top running tips

  1. Make individual targets
  2. Reward yourself
  3. Remember the health benefits
  4. Don’t think “all or nothing” – even if you go for a 10-minute run it’ll still have a positive effect
  5. Talk to other runners

Rianna’s top tips for crew leaders

  1. Adapt and maintain good organisational skills
  2. Increase knowledge
  3. Enjoy
  4. Be yourself in everything you do
  5. Listen and value the opinions of the people within your crew

Nathaniel’s top running tips

  1. Run more if you want to get better at running
  2. Leaving the house is always better than staying inside not running. Even if it’s just for 5 mins; hit the road
  3. Sleep well, the best runners are well rested
  4. Believe in yourself, if you can run strong then there’s nothing you can’t do
  5. Run with a crew

Nathaniel’s top tips for crew leaders

  1. Be vocal at crew meets
  2. Bring all your ideas to the table
  3. You have to believe in yourself
  4. Lead like you want to be there leading
  5. Wear the T with pride every day you meet your crew

Rianna and Nathaniel are both crew leaders for the Run Dem Crew Youngers. And we’re looking for more great leaders like them to start running crews in their areas. And the deadline is approaching fast! We’ll be closing applications this September.
