What’s the future for young people using business to do good?

Posted by In Employment, Videos.

Between February-April 2012, 1.01 million young people aged 16-24 were unemployed.

On Friday 29th June 2012 something very special happened. UnLtd was joined by an engaged group of people to design new ways of supporting, encouraging and inspiring young people to understand the potential of social entrepreneurship.

Social entrepreneurship is when someone decides to start a project or business where the work or profits are used to try and solve a problem.

Take a look at this playlist of some of the quick pitches from the event. Loads of great ideas were discussed.

Did that get some ideas brewing?

This isn’t the sort of post where we’re just asking an open question. We want to hear from you. UnLtd are looking for your input on all of this by asking you following questions:

1) How do we encourage Local peers, heroes and scouts in communities?
2) How do we open up control of content and spaces to support young social entrepreneurs?
3) How do we make it easier for businesses to interact with young social entrepreneurs?
4) How do we blend formal and informal support to enable young social entrepreneurs?

Some suggestions have been made and can be seen here. Get your voice heard and help make a difference. Tell us what you think.

The event was a success, but it’s only the start. If you’re interested, a report of the discussions and what they could mean for future support can be read here.

And you can read a more detailed blog post about this here.
