A man who lost an arm and a leg while clearing mines in Africa has flown to the USA for the 135-mile “Badwater” run in Death Valley, California. Read more.

The story of Jesse Owens is a classic one in the history of sport. The 1936 Olympics was hosted in Berlin, in Hitler’s Germany. Adolf Hitler could only sit and watch as Jesse, a black man, took four gold medals at the games. Read more.

Wilma Rudolph had polio as a child and was told that she’d never walk again. At the 1960 Olympics in Rome, Wilma became the first American woman to win 3 gold medals in Olympic history. Read her story here.

Cliff Young took on professional athletes at a 5 day race by running for five days straight and catching up with the professionals while they slept during the night. He went on to win the race and gave all of his $10,000 prize money away. Read more.
