More 16-24 year olds in the UK are finding jobs

The number of people in work in the UK has risen, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The latest report from the ONS gives details of the period between January and March of this year, and there were more people in work when compared to the period between October and December of last year.

Despite the unstable economy, unemployment fell by 45,000 in the previous quarter of the year with 29.3 million people aged 16 and over in employment. And the number of unemployed 16-24 year olds has dropped by 17,000.

This increase could be down to the high number of people taking on part-time jobs because they can’t find full-time work – a record high of 1.4 million people are now working part-time. And there is also a record high of 4.1 million people who are registered as self-employed.

And the figures also show that the number of people who have been unemployed for longer than a year has increased by 27,000.
