Some people are worried that there is a split growing...
Read MoreOur phrase for the day seemed to be ‘All Change’!
From start to finish the day was fast and furious, with plenty of fun thrown in, naturally as we were working with inspiring young people! We welcomed young people who had travelled from Leeds, Wolverhampton and London to pitch their projects ideas on 14th May at UnLtd’s National UnConference for Social Entrepreneurs. This was an exciting opportunity for them, being the first time that young people had been invited to pitch ideas and explore the UnConference, which was a ‘hit’!
The programme – 3 workshops around Motivation, Impact and Achievability, as well as a Speed Networking session with Social Entrepreneurs, followed by the final pitches. There was a lot to get through. But believe me…we all got a lot out of it!
Five Young ‘Dragons’ (L:R Lee, Reiss, Chante, Akil and Tahir) were rounded up from the across England (young people involved in Live UnLtd) to listen to thirteen young pitchers. These young ‘dragons’ would decide whether the young pitchers ideas would be SMART enough to get funded.
The DMs (Karen, Rachel and Joanne) had the hardest job, delivering workshops to get as much useful information across to these young people in such a short space of time. I believe they did their very best and provided the potential pitchers with valuable tools to help assist them with their pitches and the future development of their projects.
The Speed Networking Session – The girl in the ‘black dress with the blue belt’ (me) had to go to the main stage to plug this part of the day’s activity. Now if the pitchers thought they were scared pitching to a panel of five young people, imagine how I felt doing my five minute recruitment drive to over 300 social entrepreneurs! But I did it! Eight SEs came forward to support this session which was fantastic. The young people soaking in every golden nugget of advice given by the Social Entrepreneurs, every 4 minutes…what a sight!
After participating in the workshops and a speed networking session, the young people were a forced to be reckoned with (although a few nerves crept in; just before pitching began). All 13 young people pitched their ideas with great enthusiasm!
So who got funded? You’ll have to check back to find out!
